The Cafe Writers Committee has decided to discontinue the Poem of the Month Competition in its present form. We have had some difficulties displaying the winning poems; the format of 14 lines or less is rather limiting; the competition takes a lot of time to administer; we have recently been short of entries; and the "months" have been getting longer and longer.

Instead, we will have a sleek, streamlined Poem of the Month. This will be displayed here on our website, prominently for one month and in a collection thereafter. There will be honour, but no prize.

If you would like to submit a poem, the best way is to email it to me at richard@cafewriters.org.uk
Please add the line: "I give permission for this poem to be displayed on the Cafe Writers website and used for Cafe Writers publicity" to your entry. You may also hand a poem to me at the Cafe Writers meetings; if you do this, please print and use one of these forms. Poems can now be of any length. However, you should realize that your hand-written, eight-page prose poem will have to be quite outstanding for me to spend my weekend typing it up!

I will use my skill and judgment (however flawed), and perhaps some advice to choose, commission, beg or if desperate, write the Poem of the Month. Poems should of course be entirely your own work.
